Having opened in January 2017, Hermanus Medical Village focuses on providing specialised, high quality and affordable medical care in a safe and welcoming environment. Equipped with modern and superior facilities, and situated in close proximity to the provincial hospital and Mediclinic, Hermanus Medical Village aims to deliver excellent patient care.
Future thinking and innovative collaboration has resulted in the union of four distinctive medical centers, housed under Hermanus Medical Village: Hermanus Day Hospital, Hermanus Oncology Center, Spescare Hermanus (sub-acute facility), and Hermanus Elderly Care Place (assisted living and frail care facility). Hermanus Medical Village is proud to offer a diversity of medical care all under one roof.
Hermanus Day Hospital is a 21-bed, 3 theatre facility which will be open to the public from January 2017. The Hospital is run by local medical specialists and forms part of Hermanus Medical Village. Hermanus Day Hospital offers various surgical procedures that do not require patients to stay overnight.
Surgeries will include the following areas of expertise:
The Hermanus Oncology Center is headed up by Dr John Duminy. He obtained his MB.ChB in 1995 and a Masters of Medicine (Radiation Oncology) in 2004, both from the University of the Free State. Prior to his relocation to Hermanus, he was based in Klerksdorp at the Wilmed Park practice of Dr's Alberts, Bouwer and Jordaan where he worked as a director for over ten years.
Hermanus Medical Village is proud to have Dr Duminy leading the oncology facility. He has experience in chemotherapy and radiotherapy in both the radical and palliative setting, and has done over 400 cases of prostate brachytherapy with the urologists in the North West Province over the past 10 years. Due to the vastness of the Overberg municipal district and knowing that some patients have difficulty traveling over long distances, the Hermanus Oncology Center will reach out by means of a peripheral clinic in Swellendam at the premises of Dr's Boshoff and partners.
Spescare provides a comprehensive range of specialist services focused on sub-acute, convalescent, rehabilitation and transitional care programs. With a 20-bed facility managed by a multidisciplinary team of world-class specialist rehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dieticians, social workers and case managers, Spescare is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to patients who require specialist medical rehabilitation as a result of an accident, illness or injury.
Spescare forms part of the National Hospital Network which is currently the 4th largest hospital group, representing independent hospitals throughout South Africa.
Hermanus Elderly Care Place, a dedicated and comprehensive medical frail care facility, is the first of its kind in the Hermanus and Overberg region. The facility offers 20 private en-suite rooms and 17 double en-suite rooms in luxurious setting, each complete with balconies or patios, air-conditioning and DSTV. Hermanus Elderly Care Place is managed by Medipartners, a division of Spescare.
